In order to meet the goals and motives of the Type 1, participative formats must be designed as aas a bidirectional exchange of mode 1 and mode 2 knowledge. It is not enough to integrate society’s knowledge into academic research. Instead, scientists must increase their capacity to communicate the results of their research to non-experts.
